How to Choose a Face Oil That Hydrates Without Feeling Greasy

I made Good Day Face Oil because I wanted something simple, effective, and grounded in skin science.

The idea behind this formula is straightforward: support the skin barrier with lipids that feel compatible with skin, absorb well, and help reduce moisture loss without leaving a heavy finish. That thinking shaped every ingredient choice in Good Day Face Oil.

Why I focused on skin-mimicking lipids

When skin feels dry, tight, or reactive, the issue is often a barrier issue. The skin barrier depends on a healthy mix of lipids to keep water in and irritants out. So I chose a small group of ingredients that are known for their compatibility with skin and their ability to support that lipid layer.

That is why Good Day is built around jojoba, squalane, meadowfoam, and oat oil.

Why I chose jojoba oil

Jojoba is one of the most useful ingredients in skincare because it behaves differently than many plant oils. Technically, jojoba is a liquid wax ester, not a typical triglyceride oil. That matters because human sebum also contains wax esters.

In practical terms, that gives jojoba a strong affinity with the skin. It absorbs beautifully, feels balanced, and helps the formula feel more intuitive on the face rather than overly rich or greasy.

Why I chose olive-derived squalane

Squalane is lightweight, stable, and very skin-compatible. Since it’s derived from squalene, a lipid naturally found in the skin, it helps soften and smooth without leaving residue. It also improves the slip of the formula, which is part of why Good Day feels light rather than oily.

Why I chose meadowfoam seed oil

Meadowfoam gives the formula structure. It is rich in long-chain fatty acids, which help create a soft, cushioned finish on the skin. More importantly, it helps reduce transepidermal water loss, meaning it helps keep moisture from evaporating too quickly. I wanted the formula to feel protective, but not occlusive, and meadowfoam does that very well

Why I chose oat kernel oil

Oat kernel oil brings the calm. Dry skin is often also irritated skin, so I wanted an ingredient that could help support both comfort and barrier function. Oat oil contains skin-supportive lipids, including phospholipids and ceramide-related compounds, and is especially helpful for skin that looks red, reactive, or overstimulated.

Why I included bisabolol

Bisabolol is there for its soothing properties. It’s known for helping reduce visible irritation and for supporting skin that is feeling stressed.

Why I included vitamin E

Vitamin E serves two purposes. First, it provides antioxidant support. Second, it helps protect the integrity of the formula itself by slowing oxidation in the oil blend. In an anhydrous product, stability matters, so this was a practical choice as much as a skin-benefit choice

Why I kept the formula small

I kept Good Day to six ingredients on purpose, because this formula did not need more. Each ingredient has a clear role: support the barrier, improve absorption, reduce moisture loss, calm irritation, and protect the formula.

That was the goal from the beginning. A face oil that feels good, functions well, and is built on real formulation logic instead of filler.
